ES Identification and Qualifications AGL
The ALP program at GCA offers extension and enrichment of the Georgia standards through academic development in a variety of learner opportunities. In the event that a learner, who is currently taking advantage of all the ALP program has to offer on grade level, demonstrates ability 2-3 years above his or her current placement, the leadership team at GCA will evaluate possibilities for above grade level assignments and course placement. In order to be considered, the learning coach must request in writing that the learner be evaluated for above grade level placement. This request needs to be made within the first 30 days of the school year in order to ensure that minimal disruption in instruction. In this request the learning coach must also outline the evidence that has led to the request. The grade level teacher, lead, and ALP Coordinator will then begin the progress monitoring process, collecting evidence of the learner performance, emotional maturity, and aptitude for success in a more rigorous environment. The learner may be asked to demonstrate above grade level mastery on the webcam with either the grade level teacher, lead teacher, or ALP Coordinator. This may include end of grade assessments, reading and math fluency checks, and/or writing samples. Learners must demonstrate that through this evaluation that the work is their own and they can complete it independently. After data is collected, the team will meet to determine the most appropriate environment for the learner. Learners are identified and placed in AGL courses based on criteria established by Georgia Cyber Academy.
ES AGL Qualifications
Learners will receive enrichment/extension work to continue working and developing their skills if they have met the following requirements:
- 100% completion of the OLS
- 100% completion of ALL Portfolios
- 100% of MGAs
An end of course assessment must be administered and approved by ALP Lead to show mastery. This assessment should be given in BBC, and when the learner has a webcam available, it must be turned on so that the teacher can view the learner taking the assessment. In addition, learners must meet all of the requirements below.
NOTE: If a teacher is uncertain that the learner is taking the assessment independently, the teacher may require the learner to take the assessments in person; this may require arranging for another GCA teacher who lives closer to meet the learner at a mutual public location (such as a library). If all these requirements are met, please assign the learner enrichment/extension work. If you need assistance with providing this for the learner, please contact the ES ALP POC.
There may be individual situations which should be referred to the ALP Coordinator who will work with the Elementary Academic Administrator, the teachers, and parents to determine the best placement for the learner.
