Dear GCA Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday and are ready for a productive Spring semester. As we begin the term, I would like to draw your attention to a few items to aid you in a successful start.
At GCA our mission is to provide and support an interactive virtual learning environment to support individualized and differentiated student-centered educational experiences serving students from kindergarten through the 12th grade. To aid in this, we have developed virtual classroom behavior guidelines for all students. In addition, we have developed a student dress code, applicable to live class sessions and school sponsored events. A copy of those documents has been provided for your review. Our goal is to ensure that the environment at GCA is conducive to learning for all students.
As most of you know, Georgia Milestones testing is just over ninety days away. It is important that you are working hard in preparation to perform well on these tests. We have a lot of parents and students who ask the same question: “What is the best way to prepare for these tests?” Our answer to that question is always the same: log in daily, attend live class sessions, and take advantage of the support provided by our teachers. If you have questions, please click here: GCA Attendance and Engagement Policies. Additionally, guidelines outlining what constitutes excused and unexcused absences are available here. While we understand that emergencies arise, it is imperative that you schedule vacations, appointments and other events around the school calendar. You should also understand that attendance at testing is mandatory (see dates below). Failure to attend testing could result in withdrawal from Georgia Cyber Academy.
Georgia Milestones End-Of-Grade Testing (Grades 3-8) April 22 - April 26, 2019
Georgia Milestones End-Of-Course Testing (Grades 9-12)* April 29 - May 3, 2019
*Any student in Middle School who is taking a High School EOC course will be required to take the corresponding EOC for that High School course.
Finally, I want to remind you that we have a dedicated team of professionals here to support you. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to your Family Success Liaison, teachers, Counselor and administrators. We are here to support our students and families. Let’s make this a great semester and a successful year!
Head of School
It is my pleasure to welcome you and your family to Georgia Cyber Academy (GCA)!
Thank you for choosing to enroll your children in our school. As a mother, I am well aware of the huge responsibility you have placed with our administrative team and faculty, and we are truly honored by the trust you have demonstrated in us. Our number one goal is to ensure that our students obtain the necessary academic skills and knowledge to be successful in all their future endeavors.
The staff of GCA is highly skilled, extremely committed, and dedicated to the well-being and academic success of all our students. In partnership with our Learning Coaches and community, we help our pupils build a firm academic foundation to support them in reaching their goals. Our teachers and administration have high expectations for our school, our students, and ourselves and strive for continuous improvement and positive growth each and every day.
GCA provides our students with the opportunity to study and learn in a safe and familiar environment of their choosing, while pursuing personalized education paths. We serve all students and are committed to meeting them where they are and providing the supports they need, including special education services and language supports, while removing the obstacles to continuous forward progress for our advanced and gifted students.
The reasons that our students choose a virtual education are varied and include but are not limited to medical necessity; the opportunity to earn more flexibility in their schedules; the prospect of additional time to pursue their personal extracurricular interests; personalized educational pace and rigor; our dual enrollment partnerships with more than 30 colleges and technical schools; a full catalog of advanced, honors, and AP® courses; and the desire for a familiar, safe, and bully-free environment. Regardless of where our students reside, their economic situation, or the personal challenges that might limit their academic options, we provide a powerful education option for students throughout the state of Georgia.
Every aspect of our program has been constructed to provide a framework in which our students can build upon their knowledge, skills, and unique abilities to realize their fullest academic potential. GCA's environment is structured to minimize distractions and stress, while instilling a good work ethic, positive character qualities, self-motivation, and self-confidence in our students. Our unique approach also allows students the opportunity to develop soft skills such as time management and organizational skills beyond that of their peers as they matriculate through our grade bands. At GCA, we are privileged to enjoy this unique education environment, so that our students may flourish and succeed in all their endeavors, both personal and academic.
We hope your family’s experience at GCA will be enriching and fulfilling, and that we will enjoy the opportunity of educating your child for many years to come!
On behalf of the entire GCA staff and community, best wishes for a great school year!
